Scholarships



Each year, the Foundation awards several health scholarships to students who are pursuing higher education in the health professions. The term "health professions" is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from vocational nursing and dental assistant, to health education, to dentistry and medicine.

 

The awards include:
The Berwick Health and Wellness Fund Scholarship Award
To be eligible, a student must live in the service area and be a graduating senior at one of the following high schools: Berwick, Benton, Central Columbia, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech, Northwest, or West Side Vo-Tech. The student must be accepted into a two or four-year college pursuing a health profession. The term “health professions” is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from vocational nursing and dental assistant, to health education, to dentistry and medicine. Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for up to four years.

The Berwick Health and Wellness Fund - Non-Traditional
To be eligible, a student must live in the service area, be at least age 23, and be accepted or enrolled in a two or four-year college with a declared health profession major as described above. This is a one year award of $1,000. 

Walter and Florence Vorbleski Award
These awards are offered for graduating seniors enrolling in a two or four-year college majoring in one of the following: pre-med; nursing; physician’s assistant; nurse practicianer; surgical technician. This award provides one-year awards of $500 to $1,000.

 

Scholarship Application Forms

The Berwick Health & Wellness Fund, part of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, is currently accepting applications from high school seniors as well as college students who are pursuing a degree in the medical/health field.

All candidates must reside in the Berwick Health and Wellness service area, which includes 23 boroughs and townships in the greater-Berwick area.

Applications are in a form document that should be saved and emailed to kseesholtz@csgiving.org. Instructions are found on the front page of each application.

The deadline for students to complete and submit an application for any of the SAHF's scholarship awards is Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

The mission of the Berwick Health and Wellness Fund is to improve the health and welfare of the Berwick area community. Its service are includes the following areas: Benton Borough and Township; Berwick Borough; Briar Creek Borough and Township; Butler Township; Conyngham Borough and Township; Fishing Creek Township; Hollenback Township; Hunlock Township; Huntington Township; Mifflin Township; Nescopeck Borough and Township; New Columbus Borough; North Centre Township; Salem Township; Shickshinny Borough; South Centre Township; Stillwater Borough; Sugar Loaf Township; and Union Township.
