Berwick Health & Wellness Fund
Auxiliary Board

Auxiliary Board Officers 2006:
The Berwick Health and Wellness Fund Auxiliary is a group of over 300 volunteers who work on behalf of the fund by conducting fund-raising and engaging in community service projects.
Founded in 1929 as the Berwick Hospital Auxiliary, the organization continues many of its volunteer efforts at the hospital, including running the hospital Gift Shop, providing children’s tours and sibling classes, and donating infant car seats to new parents. In addition, the Auxiliary is active in many area nursing homes, providing regular activity programs as well as outings and special events . The Auxiliary provides volunteers for programs such as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the foundation’s booster car seat program.
The Auxiliary sponsors two main fundraising events each year. In 2007 the annual Dinner-Dance was held April 28. The Fifteenth Annual Healthcare Golf Classic scramble tournament took place on June 1 at the Berwick Golf Club.
During 2006, this committed group volunteered over 1,600 hours and contributed more than $36,000 to the following programs: Beyond Violence, Berwick Area YMCA Youth & Family Program, Berwick Public Library Campaign, American Red Cross bloodmobiles, Helping Hands Program at area nursing homes, Driver Safety Programs, Infant Car Seat Program, Art Shows, Children’s Clothing Exchange, Senior Swim program, TreeFest and many more. The Auxiliary also approved a pledge of $50,000 to the Berwick Public Library campaign.
In 2001, the foundation established the Auxiliary Endowment Award, which is presented each year to an outstanding and dedicated volunteer. Recipients of the award to date are Ferne Krothe in 2001, Kay Mentrikoski in 2002, Alice Remington in 2003, Karen Ferrigno in 2004, Roger and Carol Fish in 2005, Nancy Eves in 2006 and Marilyn Muehlhof in 2007.
The Auxiliary invites new members who wish to actively participate in volunteer activities, or who prefer to simply support the organization and its community service. The cost to join is $7 annually, $75 for a life membership, and $50 for a senior life membership. Members receive a quarterly newsletter from the Auxiliary as well as the newsletter of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation.
