Berwick Health and Wellness Fund

The Berwick Health & Wellness Fund (BHWF) is the largest charitable fund of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation. BHWF is celebrating its 10th year of grant making in the greater Berwick area – having distributed over $10 million of funding to local charitable organizations for capital, program and operating needs. Together with local government, other grant makers, local businesses, organizations and individual citizens, we are rebuilding the infrastructure of Berwick and surrounding areas.
BWHF has also contributed to the community by improving one of the gateways to downtown Berwick. In 2009 the Foundation’s new office was completed on a flatiron site on Front Street, a main thoroughfare to the downtown. The project eliminated an empty blighted building and resulted in Columbia County’s first LEED Certified Building (green building). Some of the key “green” elements include: locally manufactured products, walk able proximity to downtown, building on a previously disturbed site, hybrid geo-thermal mechanical system, increase of pervious areas, use of natural light, Nu-wool insulation, water saving plumbing fixtures, minimizing construction waste, encouraging recycling and much more.
The Berwick Health & Wellness Fund will continue to make investments in Berwick’s health to improve the quality of life here for all of its residents.
